Dr Teo Lee Ken

Professional Fellow

Teo Lee Ken is Assistant Director of the Constituency Coordination Department at the MySDG Center for Social Inclusion, a policy advocacy and research unit under the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on SDGs (APPGM-SDG), which focuses on social analysis on the sustainable development goals, society, and policy reform. He holds a PhD in Malay Studies from the Department of Malay Studies, the National University of Singapore (NUS). His areas of interests include the sociology of knowledge and culture, social theory, and social policy and nation-building.

At present, his work centers on the interrelation between public policy, inclusivity, and development. With the KSI Visiting Fellowship Program, he will be involved in the thematic area of social policy focusing on the domains of policy reforms and delivery systems to address poverty, the dimensions of inequality, and advocacy of social justice in societies in Malaysia and across Asia. He will also assess the intersections between social policy with politics and governance.

Among his publications include Syed Hussein Alatas and the Question of Political Thought in Syed Hussein Alatas and Critical Social Theory: Decolonizing the Captive Mind, edited by Dustin J. Byrd and Seyed Javad Miri (Brill: 2023); SDG Policies and Practices in Malaysia, co-edited with Debbie Loh (2023); Everyday SDG Narratives from the Ground, co-edited with Debbie Loh (2024); and Empowering Development Planning and Implementation at the District Level of Governance in Peninsular Malaysia (Journal of the Malaysian Parliament: 2024).
