Hyren Gan

Student Fellow

Hyren Gan is a first-year undergraduate student majoring in Ethics, Politics, and Economics at Yale University. Previously residing in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, he is now based in New Haven, Connecticut, and is interested in pursuing a career in public policy and economic research. He has been a part of the Malaysian Youth Association for Diplomacy and Policy since 2024, and advocates for increased civil and political rights education for Malaysian youth and the Orang Asli.

Fascinated with the intersection between the public and private sectors, Hyren has also interned for Sunway Corporate Venture Capital to understand the role of corporations in promoting ESG goals through start-up investment. He is also a member of Dwight Hall Socially Responsible Investment Fund, which invests in Yale's $200,000 community service endowment to maximise financial return for social justice causes.

Hyren enjoys writing essays and analyses on historical and economic matters. He has written a blogpost for the London School of Economics student-run website The Webster Blog, in addition to a historical research essay on the Malayan Emergency for his International Baccalaureate Extended Essay coursework. Hyren has also received a shortlist and a Gold Award from the John Locke Institute and the Royal Commonwealth Society for his essays on public service media taxation and local policy change respectively.
