5th World Digital Economy and Technology Summit (WDET)

The 5th World Digital Economy and Technology Summit (WDET) 2026 arrives at a structural inflection point. AI is no longer primarily a tool of digital assistance — it is becoming a force of autonomous execution, operating across both digital and physical domains. The convergence of agentic systems, sovereign AI capacity, and the large-scale deployment of embodied intelligence is beginning to reshape productivity, industrial policy, and economic competitiveness in ways that go well beyond digital transformation. For ASEAN, the question is no longer whether to engage with these systems, but how to govern, direct, and benefit from them at scale. WDET 2026 convenes senior government, business, and technology leaders to turn strategic intent into concrete action. Building on a consistent track record — the 2022 Kuala Lumpur edition, the 2nd WDET in Penang (2023), the 3rd in Jakarta (May 2024), and the 4th in Bangkok (2025) — WDET has established itself as a high-level, outcomes-focused platform for the digital economy across Southeast Asia and beyond.

Under the theme “Unleashing the Potential of AI and Digital Technology,” WDET 2026 is structured around four priorities that sit at the intersection of this transformation — priorities now at the top of national and corporate agendas across Southeast Asia, precisely because autonomous systems are making the cost of inaction higher:

WDET 2026 is designed to be outcomes-driven rather than declaratory. Sessions are structured to surface practical commitments, identify actionable partnership initiatives, and agree on governance and operating guardrails that can be implemented within the next 6 to 12 months. This urgency is real: as agentic and embodied AI moves rapidly from pilot to deployment across ASEAN, uneven readiness in data infrastructure, compute sovereignty, talent, and governance will determine which economies and organisations shape the transition — and which are shaped by it.
