The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light what many experts have been arguing for years – that Malaysia’s social protection system is inadequate. There are gaps in how some businesses operate, especially in the semi-formal sector that have put these businesses (and individuals working in these businesses) at a point of exclusion from assistance the government could have rendered in the form financial reliefs and social protection during times of need. There are also gaps in legislation causing such scenarios to exist.

Speakers of this webinar will discuss underlying issues causing this exclusion and provide public policy recommendations on what the government can do to remedy these issues.

1. What are the experts take on the reasons why some businesses and individuals continue to be excluded from social protection?
2. What is causing these gaps and why are these gaps persisting? How can these issues be remedied?
