Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Lai Chee Sern

Lai Chee Sern is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), where he has served since 2004, alongside his role as Deputy Director at the Malaysia Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (MyRIVET). He holds a PhD in Engineering Education from the University of Bremen and has been actively involved in shaping Malaysia’s TVET landscape, including his appointment to the Quality Focus Group under Majlis TVET Negara (MTVET). His work focuses on TVET teacher training, work-based learning, and innovative teaching methodologies, with projects supported by international organisations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Dr. Lai is a prolific academic and thought leader, with over 150 publications spanning journals, conference proceedings, and books. He has held key editorial roles, including Editor-in-Chief of the Online Journal for TVET Practitioners and TVET@ASIA, and contributes as a reviewer for numerous international journals. In addition to his research and leadership roles, he is an experienced educator, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering and education, while supervising research at bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels.
