Dato’ Dr Badrul Hisham is the first Johor State Government Officer to helm Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) as the Chief Executive since January 2022. He brings with him 30 years of experience serving in various State government departments, as well as being seconded to State and Federal GLCs. In this capacity, he served as the Private Secretary to the Menteri Besar of Johor, Director of Tourism Johor, the President of Johor Bahru Tengah Municipal Council (now known as Iskandar Puteri City Council), as well as Deputy State Secretary (Management & Development).

Whilst in public service he attained his MBA, as well as his PhD from the University of Glamorgan, Wales and also attended Harvard Kennedy School. In 2017, he was appointed Adjunct Professor by the Faculty of Geoinformation and Real Estate, University Teknologi Malaysia.

He was instrumental in the formation of Iskandar Malaysia, then known as the South Johor Economic Corridor, while attached to the Special Project Team at Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and was made the first State Commissioner of IRDA.

In his current role, he leads IRDA in planning, facilitating and promoting the development of Iskandar Malaysia by regulating and driving various stakeholders in both public and private sectors towards realizing the vision of developing the region into a Strong and Sustainable Metropolis of International Standing. As of 2022, Iskandar Malaysia has recorded RM375.9 billion in total cumulative investment.
