
Chief Coordination Officer, Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Secretariat
Datuk Haji (Datu) Rosmadi bin Datu Sulai is a distinguished public sector leader in Sabah, currently serving as the Chief Coordinating Officer of the Sabah Maju Jaya Secretariat. Born in Kota Belud in 1962, he has dedicated more than four decades to public service, holding senior leadership positions across key ministries and state agencies. His current responsibilities focus on advancing Sabah’s economic development through the Blue Economy agenda and spearheading initiatives aimed at eradicating hardcore poverty across the state. Widely recognised for his signature philosophy, “thinking without a box,” he encourages innovative and forward-thinking approaches within the civil service.
Datuk Rosmadi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Master’s in Public Administration from California State University, Chico. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in numerous senior government roles, including Director General of the Sabah Public Service Department and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment. He also serves on several important state councils and boards, including the Sabah Blue Economy Council and as Chairman of Borneo.TV. A recipient of multiple state and national honours, Datuk Rosmadi is also known for his passion for jazz music, golf, and bowling.
