Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong has been the President of Malaysian Chinese Association since 2018 and the Member of Parliament for the Ayer Hitam constituency for five consecutive terms since 2004.

He is also the former Minister of Transport, from 11 March 2020 to 19 November 2022. From June 2014 to May 2018, Dr Wee served as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, being in charge of developing policies on SME business, micro-credit programmes, and leading development of Chinese New Villages. Prior to this post, he held the portfolio of Deputy Minister of Education from 2008 to 2013.

Born 20 October 1968 in Jasin, Malacca, Dr Wee has a strong passion for
education development in Malaysia. He is both the council member of University of Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and the Board of Trustees Chairman of TARC Education Foundation, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT). He was also a council member with the Malaysian Qualification Agency.

Dr Wee graduated in civil engineering from the University of Technology Malaysia and obtained a Master of Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore and later earned a doctorate in transportation planning from the University of Technology Malaysia before spending over a decade as a professional civil engineer. Currently, he serves as an active member on several professional engineers’ organisations including the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (MIEM) and Road Engineering Association of Asia & Australasia (REAAA).
