DATUK SK LINGAM read law & was awarded the University of London Book Prize for outstanding student in International Law.
While as a student & later as a Lawyer he was part of a team of advisors giving free Advisory surgeries to Charities & underprivileged people focusing on addressing issues faced by members of the ethnic minorities mainly Afro, Caribbean & Asians from Africa, & South Asia.
He applied his Commercial expertise & knowledge on Malaysia & ASEAN to benefit his Consultancy work -advising U.K. & European companies making a foray into Malaysia & into the ASEAN region. Similarly, he advised several Malaysian & ASEAN based entities with their entry into both the U.K. & European markets.
He was nominated by the then Malaysian High Commissioner in 1998 to represent Malaysia in the ASEAN U.K. Business Forum (AUBF), launched by AUBF’s the then Patrons their Excellencies the Ambassadors & High Commissioners to the Court of St James’s. He was elected as Aubf’s first Chairman & today its President. Datuk SK formed albeit at the behest of our then High Commissioner of Malaysia, in 2009 the Malaysia Link U.K. (MLUK). The objective of MLUK is to promote trade, investment & bi lateral relations between U.K. & Malaysia, simply put to Champion Malaysia in the U.K. working in tandem with our High Commission in London. Later he was invited to be Vice President to the ASEAN EU Business Networks (AEBN) in Brussels with ASEAN Ambassadors to the EU as Patrons.
Currently Datuk SK is a mentor at Level 39 Canary Wharf, which is Europe’s largest technology ecosystem & cluster specialising in the whole armoury of Digital Technology.
Datuk SK acts as an International Consultant to several UK based digital technology companies. He is assisting some of them to explore the Malaysian & ASEAN countries.
He has been for several years actively mentoring & acting as Hon. Advisor to several Student bodies in the U.K. such as Warwick Asean Corporate,ICUBE, Gencorporate & Association of Malaysian Economics Undergraduates. Aside in the past he was advisor to the UN Youth Organisation set up by Cambridge University Law Students. He gives numerous talks on various topics to students & youths motivating them as it is his belief that the students of today are tomorrow’s corporate & political leaders.
Datuk SK collaborates with the Malaysian High Commission in the U.K., MIDA & MATRADE London advising & assisting on an ad hoc basis as well as giving speeches on Malaysia & ASEAN.
Datuk SK Have in the past represented in the U.K. & in Europe, albeit on a pro bono basis, Invest Selangor, Invest Kedah, & Kulim Hi Tech.
He was Knighted by the Agong (King) of Malaysia with the award of the title, ‘Datuk’ akin to the British knighthood which carries the title, Sir’. This award was in recognition for unstinting & tireless efforts & services rendered to Malaysia albeit on a pro bono basis for nearly 30 years.
