DR. MAZLAN ABBAS

DR. MAZLAN ABBAS is a Malaysian technologist, entrepreneur, and educator best
known for his work in the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities. He is the Co
Founder and CEO of FAVORIOT Sdn Bhd, a homegrown IoT platform company that
helps organisations design, deploy, and scale real-world IoT solutions.
With more than three decades of experience, Dr. Mazlan has built his career across
academia, government R&D, large corporations, and startups. He began as an
academic at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, later moved into senior leadership roles
at CELCOM Axiata, and then served as Senior Director at MIMOS Berhad, where he
led applied R&D in wireless communications and IoT. Before founding FAVORIOT,
he was also the CEO of REDtone IoT.
Dr. Mazlan holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (First Class Honours) and a PhD from Universiti
Teknologi Malaysia, as well as a Master’s degree in Telematics from the University of Essex, UK. He has
served as an Adjunct Professor at multiple universities and sits on numerous industry advisory panels,
helping bridge industry needs with academic learning.
Recognised globally, Dr. Mazlan has been listed among the Top 50 Global Thought Leaders in IoT, Smart
Cities, and GovTech, and is a frequent speaker at international conferences. Through his writing, talks, and
leadership at FAVORIOT, he is known for championing practical, grounded technology that works in real
environments, especially within emerging markets.
