Prof. Dr. Sharifah Syahirah Sy Shiekh

PROF. DR. SHARIFAH SYAHIRAH SY SHIEKH is a Vice Chancellor at the University Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) andformer Dean of Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS). Her expertise lies in the fields of Gender, Politics, and Governance. In 2025, she was appointed as an Executive Board Member of Vice Chancellors Council for Private Universities (2025-2027). Prof. Dr. Sharifah Syahirah is actively engaged in various national and international organizations, including the National Council of Women’s Organization (NCWO) and the Malaysian Social Science Association. She is known for her eloquent representation of Malaysian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in regional and global forums and is a sought-after speaker at conferences, radio and TV shows. As a prolific researcher, Prof. Dr. Sharifah Syahirah has made significant contributions to academia through her publications in respected journals and book chapters. Her work primarily revolves around the intricate relationship between gender dynamics and politics. She has also successfully managed various research grants, including the study of Empower Rural Women’s Training and Skills (2023), National Survey on Young Women (2016), the study of Sexual Harassment in Sports (2019), and the evaluation of the Effectiveness of Rural Development Training INFRA (2020). Her outstanding dedication and contributions have earned her prestigious national awards, such as Women Empowerment Icon and Tokoh Alumni IIUM in 2024, the Global Pioneering Women Leader Award in 2020, Malaysia’s Women Leadership Award in 2019, KPTM Excellence Award (Research) and the Mara Educator Excellence Award in 2016, highlighting her pivotal role in advancing gender studies and political discourse.
