Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, 57 years old, received his secondary education at Penang Free School before furthering his tertiary studies in England. A qualified accountant, Che Khalib is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (CA, M) and also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA, UK) United Kingdom.

Che Khalib has held several key positions in the private sector. He started his career as an Audit Assistant with Messrs Ernst & Young (formerly known as Ernst & Whinney) (January 1989-May 1989) and later joined Bumiputra Merchant Bankers Berhad, as an Assistant Manager (May 1989-July 1992). Between 1992 and 1999, Che Khalib served in several companies within the Renong Group, including the position of Senior Manager, Corporate Finance of Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan Berhad (July 1992-December 1994), General Manager, Corporate Finance of HBN Management Sdn Bhd (January 1995-December 1995) and Chief Operating Officer of Renong Overseas Corporation Sdn Bhd (January 1996-July 1997); as well as Managing Director of Marak Unggul Sdn Bhd, the consortium company responsible for the management of the national railway company, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad.

 

Due to his diligence, capabilities and outstanding achievements in management, he was appointed as the Chairman, Executive Committee Cum Chief Executive of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (July 1997-May 1999). He later joined SAJ Holdings Sdn Bhd / Ranhill Utilities Berhad, the concession company responsible for the management of water utility in the State of Johore, as the Chief Executive Officer (June 1999-November 2002). Che Khalib joined the Khazanah Nasional as a Board member and Executive Committee member from year 2000 until 2004. At Khazanah, Che Khalib was involved in several corporate exercises including the takeover of the UEM Group, Celcom, Time.Com and a few others. He was also appointed as a Board Member in a few of Khazanah subsidiary companies.

Prior to his appointment as President / Chief Executive Officer of Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Che Khalib served as Managing Director and Chief Executive of KUB Malaysia Berhad (Nov 2002-June 2004). After serving TNB for 8 years, Che Khalib later moved to join DRB Hicom Berhad in July 2012 as its Chief Operating Officer responsible for the finance, strategy and planning of the Group.

In July 2013, Che Khalib joined MMC Corporation Berhad as the Group Managing Director. He is also currently, among others, the Chairman of Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd, Johor Port Berhad, Northport (Malaysia) Berhad and Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin and Director in Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, Penang Port Sdn Bhd, Malakoff Corporation Berhad, Gas Malaysia Berhad and Alam Flora Sdn Bhd.

Che Khalib’s stellar leadership of companies has been recognized several times, most notably winning the highly prestigious Prime Minister’s Industry Excellence Award a total of three times. Tenaga Nasional Berhad received the award in 2007, followed by its subsidiary, University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), in 2009 and Johor Port Berhad in 2021. On a more personal note, in his lifetime of business achievements, Che Khalib has received many accolades in recognition of his strong leadership including being named Malaysia’s CEO of the Year in 2008, the highest level of recognition given to corporate leaders in Malaysia, organized by the New Straits Times and American Express.

He was also honoured as a corporate leader with exemplary skills in growing, expanding and transforming the organization towards a profitable, responsible and sustainable power company in the region when he received the title of “CEO of the Year” at the inaugural Asia Power and 4 Electricity Awards 2010 held in Singapore. In the same year, Che Khalib was awarded Business Leadership Award, Energy Sector by the Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce and The Leaders Magazine. Che Khalib was also named as one of the finalists for Platts 2011 Global CEO of the Year Award. He was also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Asian Utility Industry Awards 2012, held in Singapore. The Lifetime Achievement Award is regarded as the most prestigious award for the year. It commemorates a leader from the utility industry who has overcome significant milestones through resilience, long-term dedication and commercial foresight that has helped shape the dynamics of the industry.

During his tenure at SAJ Holding Sdn Bhd, the company emerged as the best managed Water Company in Malaysia in year 2002 awarded by the Malaysian Water Association. In 2021, Che Khalib has successfully steered Johor Port Berhad to win the Prime Minister’s Excellence Award and Industry Excellence Award for the Service Sector under Category 4 (Domestic company with sales turnover of more that RM100 million). Additionally, under the leadership of Che Khalib, MMC’s subsidiary Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd was recognised as the Best Regional Airport (Below 10 MPPA) of the Year in 2018 by CAPA – Centre for Aviation

Since joining MMC Corporation Berhad in 2013, Che Khalib has managed to acquire, consolidate and grow the port businesses of the group to become the largest port group in Malaysia and 8th largest port group globally. PTP has emerged as the 15th largest port in the world in 2021. Similarly, MMC Group’s construction business has grown to become one of the largest infrastructure contractors in the country
