Venessa Sambai Usek

VENESSA SAMBAI USEK has worked with communities around Malaysia for over 10 years using participatory approaches. She has a wide experience working in corporate, social enterprise and non-profit settings. She was recently involved in a bilateral, international development programme under UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) where she led the capacity building work stream. Prior to that, she worked as an education specialist for a national school transformation project in Malaysia for 5 years. Venessa was awarded with a Chevening scholarship by the UK government in 2020 where she completed her MA in Social Justice and Education at University of York.

She is currently managing a research company based in Kuching, Sarawak that aims to provide accessible factual information to build a world of better-informed citizens. Venessa is also the President of Teach For Malaysia 2022 Alumni Board, and the co-founder of ‘The Dayak Women’ group where she leads a national civic campaign on teen customary marriage in Sarawak.
