YAB Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor
YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari was appointed Menteri Besar of Selangor on June 19th 2018. As the Chief Minister of Selangor, Malaysia’s economic epicentre, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin chairs the financial, economic, education, innovation, disaster management, culture, land, and strategic communications portfolios in his executive role.
YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin was first elected into public office in 2008, representing the state constituency of Batu Caves, presently known as Sungai Tua. Prior to his appointment as Menteri Besar, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin chaired the Standing Committees of youth development, sports, culture and entrepreneurship development during his term as State Executive Councillor from 2014 to 2018. He joined the People’s Justice Party in 2004, now a member of the national Central Leadership since 2009, and is chairperson of the Pakatan Harapan coalition in Selangor.
Born in Johor, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin attended high school in Benut, Pontian, before furthering his education in Social Sciences at Universiti Putra Malaysia, graduating with an Honours. Before stepping into politics, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin was the Programme Coordinator at Institut Kajian Dasar, a think-tank in Kuala Lumpur focusing on issues related to the economy, culture and education.
He is married with 6 children, having a close interest in reading – especially in burgeoning areas like technology, innovation – and sports, being an ardent supporter of Liverpool Football Club.
