The world does not necessarily suffer from a lack of institutions. It may suffer from too many institutions that do not work together effectively.
In A World Outgrowing Its Institutions, Mo Chang How examines the challenges facing global governance through the lens of global health. The article considers institutional duplication, unequal power, health workforce migration, donor-dependent financing and the proposed restructuring of international organisations.
The central argument is that institutional reform should go beyond efficiency. It must also address representation, accountability and the distribution of power—particularly ensuring that low- and middle-income countries and affected communities have a meaningful voice.
