The Struggle of a Nation: When Memory and Resistance is Written in Blood

Dr. Teo Lee Ken

This article reflects on the US-Israel war on Iran through the lens of Iranian political culture, Shi’a philosophy, and the concept of martyrdom. Dr. Teo argues that many Western observers fundamentally misunderstand Iran because they fail to appreciate the historical, religious, and cultural significance of resistance and sacrifice in Iranian society.

Drawing heavily from the writings of Ali Shariati and the symbolism of Karbala, the article frames martyrdom not as aggression, but as resistance against oppression and injustice.
